Clean tech company Algix and environmentally-minded product and material development company Effekt have joined forces to commercialize the world’s first algae-derived flexible foams. The foams, which can be created in a range of colors, will be used for a variety of applications and marketed under the brand name Bloom.
The joint venture’s aim is to help make sustainable products more easily accessible. It could be used to produce yoga mats, footwear, sporting goods (e.g. traction for surfboards) and toys, to name but a few. Rob Falken, Effekt’s and Bloom Holding’s Managing Director, said:
Flexible foams have been overwhelmingly made out of non-renewable petrochemicals for decades.
