A new yoga clothing retailer hit Greenwich Avenue this month, offering shoppers another option when picking out the perfect pair of capris for downward dog — or to sport when they’re not sporting at all.
“Yoga clothes aren’t just for yoga anymore,” said Kristin Duda, director of communications for the new store, YOGASMOGA, which is hosting a grand opening at its 68 Greenwich Ave. location Wednesday.
“I have three boys, and at school, every mom is wearing yoga pants, and I know they’re not all doing yoga,” Duda said. “They look great, but I know half of them are wearing them to go to the grocery store and run errands. The clothes, I think, are part of a lifestyle.”
And that lifestyle is growing rapidly. While yoga participation increased by about 5 percent across the nation last year, sales for yoga attire were up about 10 times that, according to Matt Powell, an analyst at SportsOneSource, which tracks the sporting-goods industry. Continue reading >>
