I sometimes like to follow my yoga workouts with a cold one, and apparently I’m not the only one.
Hundreds of men and women unrolled their yoga mats onto the concrete floors of the NOLA Brewing warehouse this week, eager to sweat through a series of poses while surrounded by the makings of beer — and then follow the workout by tapping into the powers of the beer chakra.
“Hot Yoga, Cold Beer,” a free weekly series held in the brewery, combines two increasingly popular New Orleans interests — yoga and craft beer — which could be why the series has drawn a large crowd.
The series, organized by the local lululemon athletica, kicked off several weeks ago with 45 participants. The next session drew 125 people, and the most recent class ballooned into 265, according to Brad Showalter, assistant manager at lululemon athletica in The Shops at Canal Place.
The Canal Place fitness shop hosts the classes at 6:30 p.m. Mondays at NOLA Brewing, 3001 Tchoupitoulas St. Instructors from various local studios lead each session. Continue reading >>
